saddest songs ever... well not really 'ever'

I was reading a new popular blog 'spectrum culture' who did a piece this morning on depressing music, me being a big fan of depressing, sad, self-loathing, music I thought it lacks a little bit of modern indie artist, or maybe I just wanted to throw in my two cents on the subject, in any case heres my current collection of the most depressing songs ever.... ever being posted on Miny Moe, not ever as in of all time...

*also note that these are in no particular order

Elliott Smith - True Love

its hard for me to pick just one depressing song by Elliott because I consider my self to be the worlds biggest Elliott fan ever in the entire world... not counting all his other fans of course. Even tho Iv never even had a drug addiction I still feel like I can contect with this song as if I was jonesing to chase the dragon.

hear it here.

Bright Eyes - The Joy In Forgetting, The Joy In Acceptance

This is about artist that is hard to pick a song from, but If I had too think back to which song I listened to the most while getting completely wasted off of cheap whisky (kessler) in a teenage drunk depression it would be this one.
other good choices would have been: Messenger Bird's Song, Drunk Kid Catholic, It's Cool We Can Still Be Friends, I've Been Eating (For You),

hear it here.

Rose Melberg - Each New Day

This is a misleading title "Each New Day", sounds so positive...

hear it here.

Leonard Cohen - Stranger Song

:.(

hear it here.

Magnetic Fields - How Fucking Romantic

How fucking depressing.

hear it here

Ryan Adams - I Taught Myself How to Grow Old

easy tiger, its okay.. you have mandy moore now.

hear it here.

Daniel Johnston - Hate Song

:..(

hear it here.

Cat Power - I Found A Reason

Obviously

hear it here.

Death Cab for Cutie - I Will You Into The Dark

Obviously

hear it here.

Emily Wells - Supermarket

Not so Obviously, extremely under the radar for the amount of talent. Amazing musician.

*i cant find the full song anywhere...

Rilo Kiley - Ripchord

A tribute that was written about Elliott Smith after his death, I can see that. So was 'It Just Is' which also make sense.

*unfortunately another song i cant find anywhere online... USE YOUR IMAGINATION!!

ps. Media Temple sucks ass, thats why are blog layout looks stupid.

robot hand is the future

Strange Parellel
so i guess i figured myself to be a pretty big Elliott Smith fan,
so you can imagine how stupid i felt when  i found out that there
was this weird documentary about him id never heard of..
"Strange Parallel", which is about a few guys trying to find
Elliott in Portland and scenes drift in and out of reality- he
was apparently having a weird dream during the filming of the
documentary about people around him telling him to but a
"robot hand" to replace his real and to make him a better musician
so the director told him to write down his dream and they
worked the dream into the documentary,

there where to really funny parts that i especially loved i must mention

first was in a scene where Elliott's being interviewed and guy asked Elliott what it was like to go from being an artist with such a specific fan base to being/playing at the Grammy's and being nominated for a Grammy and he gives a awkward replay
correcting him that it was the Oscar's

and another really cool part with Larry Crane (from Quasi) playing a Theremin to one of Elliott's songs (which i cant remember atm) anywho,

you can see the full
version here...

goldenboy

goldenboy released their second album "underneath the radio" in 2006 with
eenie meenie records
(their first album "right kind of wrong" with fastmusic records)

this post is to bring to light a song by goldenboy that i feel hasn't gotten the recognition i think it deserved, blackbird at heart.
i was first shown this song by a long time deer friend of mine, check them out:

ha! just kidding..

it was by a dear friend of mine that looks completely nothing like a deer..
just to clear the air...

but i digress, blackbird at heart is another song that i was introduced to by my cool friend on a mix CD. immediately after hearing the song i played it a few more times before continuing to the rest of the mix. being a big fan of elliott smith it is obvious who goldenboy's influences where before checking their myspace page to clarify my speculation. i feel everyone, elliott smith fan or not, should listen to blackbird at heart if youre a fan of mellow & excellently put together pieces of music, which this is.
so do whatever you want, but just try and make one of those things looking up blackbird at heart, i even made a quick little link to their purevolume for you!

thanks pancakes,
christopher
