I <3 Lake Tahoe and Music, so.....

I've always loved Lake Tahoe. My family would go there at least once a year as my mom had some fancy timeshare by the casinos at Stateline (how this was financed, I have no idea). So every year, I would get excited as the calendar crept closer and closer to when our trip would be. I don't know why, but I just love Lake Tahoe. I don't ski or snowboard, so this is especially strange. There's just something about being there that makes me happy. haha.

So when I heard about this 'Wanderlust Festival' taking place at Squaw Valley on July 24-26, I knew I had to go. Even before any bands were named, the prospect of a 3-day music festival in Tahoe in the middle of summer sounded PERFECT.

I've been to an outdoor music festival in Tahoe once before....probably like nine years ago. The lineup was hilarious: Linkin Park (before they were anything), Static-X, Stereomud (who?), Kottonmouth Kings (who encouraged the crowd to throw snowballs onstage, which shorted out their amps and cut their set short 45 minutes) and someone else whom I forget. So I know what you're thinking....how could this Wanderlust Festival possibly be better than that amazing show must have been???

Well, unfortunately they haven't booked Creed (damn), but the lineup is still pretty solid:

Michael Franti & Spearhead
Spoon
Andrew Bird
Jenny Lewis
Broken Social Scene
Gillian Welch
Girl Talk
Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings
Rogue Wave
Amanda Palmer
Kaki King
Mates of State
The Honey Brothers
The Mutaytor
The London Souls
Jai Uttal
and more to be announced...(Creed?? Limp Bizkit???)

At any rate, I have heard of most of these bands/artists, and I missed Girl Talk at Coachella, so this should be a good show.

It's apparently some big music and yoga-themed event, so there are these 'yoga workshops' all weekend....thankfully you can just buy a ticket for the music and skip out on the yoga....I'm not really down for hanging out with hippies with names like Meadow and Honeydew and.....um....Mountain. I'll just enjoy the indie bands playing all weekend.

So yeah...this is a pretty cool festival, and maybe they'll add even more cool bands. As it is now, it's shaping up to be a pretty damn good music festival in LAKE TAHOE.

Although, of course, this could just be a bluegrass jam fest/chili cook off and I'd still almost be persuaded to go, strictly because of where it is. Such is my undying love for Tahoe.

that is all......

oh yeah. ps. listen to Pebaluna (a.k.a. Lauren Coleman). She's reeealllyyyyy good. :)
